Benefit of buying one from NCC is that its precut for your control panel (with button/joystick holes lining up perfectly with the holes in the control panel). Florian already had experience building these using laser cut acrylic and MDF. That said, its not necessarily easy to drill/cut plexi without cracking or breaking it. This project allows you to build your own arcade control panel in multiple configurations, there are literally dozens of ways you can configure this thing. Here’s one alternative to consider: 3D printing an arcade controller housing. You could use this stand-alone or mount it into a cabinet. STL's for expanding the OpenCADE to include arm rests, 2 stick panel (for a Robotron controller), blank panel (so you can arrange buttons anyway you want), etc. There's also some links somewhere on this site to templates specifically for Visio. It does suffer from that issue with office programs not printing in the correct orientation. I liked it because the printouts served as excellent drilling templates. I was originally just planning on digitally adding a canvas texture but I think actual canvas has the potential to be really cool. Having the design printed on canvas would really be perfect for my theme. I'll be happy to link to any additional designs others come up with on my website too. I used Microsoft Visio to design my panel. I've been considering going to Costco or some other place and having my CP printed on canvas and then sandwiched under plexi.
